The Author's Journey
"I write to understand the world, and to find the quiet patterns that connect us all."
Biography
Evelyn Harper was born in 1982 in a coastal town in Maine. The daughter of a librarian and a shipwright, she grew up surrounded by both the world of stories and the world of craftsmanship—a duality that has deeply informed her approach to writing.
She studied Comparative Literature at Brown University before moving to London, where she worked as a freelance journalist for several years. It was during this time that she published her first short story collection, *Paper Bridges*, which was longlisted for the National Book Award.
Process & Philosophy
Evelyn believes in the "slow craft" of writing. She often spends years researching a single novel, believing that the setting should be as much a character as the people inhabiting it. Her home in the Hudson Valley provides the quiet needed for this deep work, though she remains an avid traveler, believing that "displacement is often the best catalyst for clarity."
When not writing, she can be found in her garden, or wandering through local bookstores. She is a staunch advocate for independent publishing and the preservation of physical libraries.
